- EN - In this Erasmus + project we aim at creating methods for engaging youth in the transformation of our cities into more sustainable urban landscapes. The project includes activities in Copenhagen, Brussles and Madrid as well as the creation of a guide book to disseminate our findings. - DK - Erasmus+ projektet "Future Urban Forest" er et internationalt samarbejde med LabMadrid og Urban Foxes. Partnerskabet er dannet ud fra en fælles mission om at øge unges bevidsthed om grønne byrum og "Tiny Forests". Projektet indebærer aktiviteter i København, Bruxelles og Madrid, samt udgivelse af en guidebook som vil beskrive vores metoder, resultater og erfaringer.

- EN - "Future Forests: Youth-led Strategies to Greening our Cities" aims creating a framework where youth is supported to lead the transformation of our cities into sustainable urban landscapes. The starting point is our previous work with Nordic Pocket Forests, research into the 3-30-300 method to assess urban greening as well as our previous work in youth engagement. We will co-create an attractive non-formal methodology, framework and Future Forests guidebook, a Training Course for youth workers in Madrid (where methods will be tested and fine-tuned) & local implementations with youth in each partner city: Copenhagen, Brussels & Madrid. In CPH we did pilot testing in Husum with a group of youth and their youth worker. We did a series of workshops with the group and we tested our method which included a fieldtrip, mapping activities, interviews and scale modelling. - DK - Projektet "Future Urban Forests" har til formål at skabe en ramme, hvor unge støttes til at tage del i transformationen af vores byer til bæredygtige bylandskaber. Vi tager udgangspunkt i vores tidligere projekter med Nordisk Lommeskov, 3-30-300 metoden samt vores arbejde med unges engagement. Vi vil i samarbejde med LabMadrid og Urban Foxes, skabe en metode, guidebook og et træningskursus i Madrid for ungdomsledere. Desuden afholder vi lokale workshops i de 3 byer: København, Bruxelles og Madrid, hvor vi afprøver og tester vores metode. I København udførte vi vores pilot-test i Husum med en gruppe unge og deres ungdomsleder i efteråret 2025. Vi afholdte en række workshops med gruppen, som blandt andet bestod af en felttur, kortlægningsaktiviteter, interviews, skalamodellering samt udpedning af potentielle projektområder.
1. GUIDE BOOK
One of our key outputs of the project was our Future Forest Guidebook - a resource for anyone doing youth work focused on urban greening projects (or for those who just want some condensed science on urban greening principles). To read the folder in a larger format just click the images!
2. URBAN GREENING ACTIVITIES
During the training course in Madrid in May 2026 (see project recap below for more info) the participants co-created a series of activities for youth work with urban greening. We have transformed some of these into activity cards that you can download by clicking the images:
3. PROJECT RECAP
Kick-off in Copenhagen
In May of 2025 the whole steering team met up in Copenhagen for a couple of days of meetings, city-safaris and workshopping to start off our project. It was a good moment for us to show and discuss how our different practices work and what we would like to bring into Future Forests going forward.
Open Call Launch
At the end of 2025 we had the pleasure to launch our Open Call for our upcoming training course in Madrid! We were looking to recruit a diverse group of participants that had one thing in common: to want to engage youth in the development of their own environments in a greener direction.
Pilot testing in Husum, CPH
BY RUM SKOLE partnered up with Resourcegården in Husum to try out our 3+30+300 workshop with local young people. We measured, mapped and made models to show what the current conditions are and what it would look like with a 30% crown coverage. Activities were focused on discussing the impact of this higher crown coverage both from a technical and social aspects. The importance of adding meeting places and adding on a social layer was highlighted by the participants - using red stamps in the model to show places of social interest.
Training Course in Madrid
With our candidates from the Open Call we met up in Madrid for a 4 days training course. The participants visited places of interest in urban greening, got hands-on experience in model making for transformation and created their own fun activities for making engaging projects within youth work.
Final event and Guide Book Launch in Brussels
Our final event for the project was a combined launch of the Guide Book (see it above!) and the presentation of the work done by the local youth groups.
